Winter Riding
- Make sure somone is always riding with you. If you fall and hurt yurself someone can give you a ride back or call someone. Plus they keep you company. If you're not riding to escape that person...

winter riding
- it all depends on how cold it is when i ride. if it is like -5 or -10 i ride with the saddle. i am not afraid to get my horse into a sweat because i just put the cooler on for a couple of hours and it takes the sweat right out of them

My Tip
- I simply don't ride my horse in the winter since it gets -40*F where I live. I use a special truck to herd my cattle and that eliminated the time and money on buying precautions for my beastly-friend. To keep him in shape and up to his manners, I do haul my "friends" to an indoor riding arena to work with them. It's a lot nicer and you, not to mention the horse, will be a TON more happier you're not outside.

Winter Riding
- Wool flannels work wonders as an insulating layer, they are really warm with out adding bulk, they work much better if they're touching your skin though.

Winter Riding Boots
- Winter riding boots are worth their weight in gold and a really good way to keep your toes (which usually seem to be the first thing to freeze) warm.

Ground Work
- Winter is a great time to work on ground manners and showmanship skills. There are so many useful things you can do with your horse that won't work him into a sweat and can really improve his training and the relationship you have with him.

Horse Boots
- Your horse can wear boots if you don't want to put shoes on in the winter. Some have removable studs on the bottom so they don't slip.
