The Definition of Post Horse

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Post horse is an old fashioned term for a horse that was kept at an inn house and available for rent to the patrons or by post riders who delivered messages or mail. A similar term is livery horse. One can only imagine the life of these horses as they were ridden by a variety of riders, some skilled, some not, sometimes drunk after a night at the inn, and constantly being moved between establishments.
