The Definition of Markings

Markings can be any shape or size, from a few wisps of white hair, or covering the whole forehead. White markings on the legs are called socks or stockings.

Definition: Markings are patterns, usually of a different color on the horse's coat. There are leg markings, facial markings and markings on the body. Leg markings are called stockings and socks. Facial markings are stars, blazes, stripes and snips, depending on size and where they are located on the horse's face.

The police were able to identify the lost horse because of its unusual markings.
