A: The Rings of the Snaffle Bit

Photo 2008 K. Blocksdorf
A: The rings of a snaffle bit can come in many different shapes and sizes. The rings may be D shaped, egg shaped, or have branches that extend up and/or down as with a Fulmer, half-spoon driving bit and full cheek snaffle. The bit may slide along the rings as with this French Link snaffle, or the rings may be fixed so the rings only swivel as with an eggbutt snaffle.
