Katherine's Horses BlogWhat Can I Do With a Two or Three Year Old Horse? In a few weeks our Clydesdale cross colt Thor, will be a two year old. But, it will be awhile yet before his training will begin in earnest. I believe he'll be a bit too immature to start carrying a rider. (I know my daughter is anxious to sit on him.) Likely, we'll introduce him to bit and bridle and teach him to be a driving horse. We plan to only work with him lightly before putting him out on some hilly pasture where he can learn to coordinate those long legs on his own! There are lots of varying opinions about what you can do with a two, or even three year old. I prefer to wait until we start riding Thor and not ask too much, too soon.
