Heavy Traffic Areas

I have cleared & dug out the area around the gates to my pastures. I then outlined the cleared area with railroad ties and then filled it in with small rock/shale. This has eliminated the muddy mess caused by horses congregating there & by going in & out of the pastures. It has also stopped the horses from either balking going through the gate or trying to jump over the muddy area. It also gives me a nice firm place to stand when haltering the horses.

Gates

Make sure your gates are hung far enough off of the ground so if ice builds up under them they don't freeze in.
