Spot 'O' Java

Share Your Story: Memorials to Special Horses

From BossMare,

Spot 'O' Java

This is C-Horse and me enjoying just being together.

What I Miss Most About My Horse

Riding the trails with her. She so enjoyed being off the ranch. We were definitely in tune with each other.

My Horse's Special Characteristics

Anyone could ride her. I taught little kids to ride on her. She loved everyone & I never had to be afraid 4 kids to B around her. She was gentle as a lamb & I miss her to this day.

What We Accomplished Together

Many, many trail miles together. She taught many little kids how to ride which was a total joy to me. Her patience & easygoing personality captured everyone's hearts.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share

Spot 'O' Java was 3 weeks shy of her 34th b'day when I had to have her put down. I had ridden her just 2 weeks prior then had her shoes removed 4 the last time. Still have those shoes. One drizzly Calif. a.m. she just couldn't get up & she told me with her eyes that, "Mom, I'm tired".

Horse's Name, Color, Breed and Age

Her name was Spot 'O' Java. She was registered Foundation Bulldog Quarter & Registered Appaloosa. I bought her when she was 12 & when I had to say g'bye to her, she was just shy of 34. The burial ceremony was truly fit for the wonderful mare she was. Although she's no longer with me, my heart is still mourning her each time I go out on the trails we used to ride together. My mare now, C-Horse is a Reg. Polish Arab who's now 24. Bought her 4 my husband when she was 5. I ride her now & I've been truly blessed to have had Java for so many years & now my C'z.

Java pix not available but she was a beauty.

How Long Did Your Own Your Horse, Where Was It From?

Spot 'O' Java was 12 when I bought her. She lived to be just shy of 34 and was never sick a day in her life, never had her teeth floated. She was the bomb! A true purebred Foundation Qtr. mare from the renowned King Ranch in Texas. My other mare Carraddina, aka C-Horse is a Reg. Polish Arabian, G'Dtr of Alladdinn. C'z learned a lot from my Java. C'z is now 24. Bought her when she was 5. I'm very fortunate to have had Java in my life so many years & now C-Horse who is beginning to show signs of arthritis in the rear. It broke my heart to put Java down & when the time comes for C'z, I truly will feel a major loss. Hopefully she will stay healthy and be my partner for many years to come.

Lessons learned

  • Never take your horse for granted. Always watch for signs of illness, depression, etc. My Arab mare C-Horse had major colic surgery 10 years ago & has suffered 2 quiet colics this year. I've learned to be on poop patrol, have plenty of oil, bran & electrolytes for her to keep everything "moving". Always treat your horse w/respect, love & the attention they so deserve. Give back to your horse what he/she gives us, which is pure joy and pleasure.
