Your Horse's Name, Age and Bloodline
I own three minis right now and I'm on the lookout for a fourth. My three mares are 2yrs, 4yrs and 10yrs old. None of them have very famous bloodlines but are gorgeous girls. They aren't registered yet because I don't have a horse float to get to shows, but they are great friends anyway.
How Long Have You Owned & Where Did You Get Your Horse?
One of my mares, the 2 yr old, was born at my place. I have owned the 10 yr old for about 3 and half yrs and I've had the 4 yr old for 1 year. I purchased the 4 year old from a small stud, the 10 year old was from someone with only one mini.
Advice
- Minis are great for people who are nervous around horses
- Minis are normally very gentle and intelligent. They are easy to train
- This breed can get a little cheeky when they aren't reminded they are horse not human. One of my mares lies down when she's had enough excercis
- Only miniatures which are about 36 inches and above are suitable for proper riding
- Minis are very small so often fences for normal horse are high enough for them to get underneath
- Minis are FANTASTIC first horses, especially for usually unresponsible children who claim they would care for the horse and not just ride
What Is the Best Characteristic of This Breed?
Their best characteristic is probably how gentle and intelligent they are as well as their size.
Is There a Challenging Aspect of Owning This Breed?
The only thing that makes owning this breed difficult is because of their size, they can often find their way out of fences.
Do You find This Breed Requires Any Special Care?
Minis need to be taught to pick up their feet from birth as many do not like it for some reason. Also, be careful they don't overeat.
In a nutshell my horse is...
Minis tend to seek the person they trust when something is scary. They are wonderful and trusting animals and tend not to have a naughty/nasty streak as some shetlands do
