When and How Do You Use Fly Spray?

Here in South Africa we have a major problem with AHS (African horse sickness), so too keep flies, mosquitoes and these other tiny flying pests away (I don't know what they are called) I use liquid paraffin. It's is very cheap and really works for ANY type of pest even ticks...

How Effective is the Fly Spray?

It keeps away flies and other flying insects as well as ticks. I gives my horse a unique glimmer for 2-3 days after application (depending on how dirty he makes himself)...

Any Negatives To Using This Fly Spray?

In the beginning it is quite hard to apply as some horses really dislike smell. My horse did not like it at all for the first few weeks, but they get use to it and accept it, some sooner than others...

My Review

Like anything there are pro's and con's. Like stated horses don't like the smell, but they do get use to it. You can apply it either way you chose (spray or with a cloth), so which ever is easier for your horse. I personally use a cloth. The pro's most certainly outweigh the con's.... It is much cheaper and lasts longer especially if you apply with a cloth, because you don't need to cover the whole horse just a few spots (legs, face(avoid eyes), under the mane, shoulders, over the spine, under the legs by the groin area and then the tail area). 2 liters of paraffin lasts between 4-6 months (rough estimate). Then also, it not only keeps away flies and other insects it kills and keeps away ticks as well. Also it does not take away bots it does however kill them making them harmless and also makes removal much easier. I would without a doubt recommend it to any horse owner that wants to save a penny and trouble....
