Make Your Own Jump Standards

Monday July 7, 2008
My father was a carpenter and is very clever at working with wood. That's why I always say everything I know about carpentry, I learned from my mother. Apparently being good at carpentry isn't genetic. So when I can build something that doesn't require scary power tools or actual wood I'm excited. These barrel jump standards can be made for a few dollars, they are easy to make and if horse (or rider) hits them or the rail they are supporting they fall over easily. I finished these pair in less than an hour not including the time it took to drive into town and pick up the barrels. Now all I have to do is paint my rails. Do you have an inexpensive alternative to buying jumps? Photo K. Blocksdorf 2006
