Guide Review - English Saddle
My daughter and I tried out a MB close contact and a dressage saddle. We were both impressed by the comfort of the close contact. Comparing the close contact and the dressage, I felt the quality was a bit better in the close contact.
The dressage saddle I felt was stiff, especially the flaps. I didn't like that the girth attached only to the center of the tree, rather than in the front and back to distribute the pressure more evenly on the horse's back. MB felt that this is a change they might consider in the future.
In many respects these saddles are similar to the widely available Argentine made saddles. But they are certainly a step up from the mass produced non-European saddles coming from overseas.
The best thing about these saddles in the customization. There is a selection of leathers and suede to choose from, tree widths, flap lengths and stitching color. I think that young riders especially, will be excited to 'design' their own saddle. If you want a black close contact saddle, with pink stitching and a suede seat MB will make it for you. This is MB Saddles strength--a real willingness to listen to their customers and provide them with what they want.
If I were a first time saddle buyer, not able to part with thousands of dollars, I would consider buying the MB Close Contact. These won't be suitable for the rider planning on riding long distances, or heading for higher level competitions. But they are very presentable for local shows and for those just starting out. MB also makes polo saddles. For more information about MB Saddles visit the MB website.
