Definition of Rear

Definition: Lifting the front forelegs off of the ground while balancing on the back legs. Can be a reaction to being startled or hurt, belligerence, or a lack of exercise. Rearing is dangerous as horses can topple backwards.
Pronunciation: r ee r
Examples: Circus horses are often taught to rear, but it is dangerous for the rider if the horse looses its balance and falls backward.
