Definition: A cooler is a lightweight blanket that is used to prevent horses from getting a chilled when they are hot and sweaty. Coolers are often made of cotton, or cotton blends so they absorb moisture while giving the horse a bit of protection from drafts or cool breezes that may chill their muscles.

Coolers can be shaped like a regular fitted horse blanket, with chest straps, belly bands and leg straps. Or coolers, can be shaped like a big square bed sheet that is draped over the horse from ears to tail.

You can also use a cooler to protect your horse from the draft and keep dust of your while trailering. Or coolers can be used to add a bit of warmth in the stable. Coolers are also useful to prevent your horse from getting soiled after a bath. For these uses, you will want a fitted cooler with straps that will prevent shifting.
