By Katherine Blocksdorf, About.com

Here are some tips for recycling and re-using items and materials in your stable. Scroll down to find the form to submit your own environmentally friendly recycling and re-using tips.

  • Some feed mills might still take back clean empty grain bags. Many stopped taking them because returned bags might be contaminated. Ask if your feed mill will take them back.

  • Reclaim wood from projects to make jump standards, feed boxes, mounting blocks etc…

  • Find new uses for all that binder twine .

  • Re-home outgrown or un-need riding clothes and other equipment. Buy used at the consignment corner of your tack shop.

  • See Environmentally Friendly Manure Management for tips on how to 're-use' manure for gardens, lawns and pastures.

  • Repair items such as nosebands, blankets, and half-chaps instead of buying new ones. How to Repair Stitching in Leather and Heavy Fabrics give step-by-step instructions for doing simple repairs.
