Definition: A whip is an artificial aid. It is a long slender stick, the length depending on the type of whip it is. A driving whip is about 4 ft. (122cm) long, a dressage whip about 3 ft. long and a lunge whip about 5 ft. (153cm) long with an equally long lash. Whips are usually slender, about 3/4" in. (1.9cm) tapering to the end. A dressage whip becomes quite slender as it tapers to the lash at the end. A crop or bat is almost the same diameter along it's full length. Crops and bats usually terminate in wide slip of leather, and some bats may have a fringe of leather along their length.
