Horse show rosettes.

Definition: A rosette is an award given at a horse competition made of a satin type ribbon and usually printed with the name of the event and the date. The rosette is topped with a round flower of looped ribbon, with streamers that hang down. Some rosettes are very simple, with only one streamer, or they may be very elaborate. The center of the rosette usually has a button that shows a picture, crest, logo or other image. There is usually a hook of metal or cardboard on the back for hanging. Specific colors of rosettes are awarded to the various placings, although the traditional colors vary from place to place.

Hint: Have a pen handy at horse shows to write down the rider's and horse’s name, date and class the rosette was won on the back right away. There's usually a little circle of paper on the back for that purpose. It only takes a minute and saves confusion when you try to remember what class you won it in, especially if you’re with more than one horse or rider.
