Definition: A cooler is a light blanket used to prevent a hot, and sweaty horse from getting chilled. Coolers can be made in a variety of fabrics, from fleece to cotton and in a rainbow of colors. They may be fastened by straps and buckles like a rug, or they may require clamps to hold them on. Some coolers are cut to fit the horse closely like a rug, or they may be a simple 'bedsheet' shape that covers the horse from ears to tail.
Sometimes coolers are put on to keep the horse clean, especially before shows.
Also Known As: anti-sweat sheet, sheet, blanket
Examples:
After we bathed my horse, we put a cooler on her so she would stay clean.
