The Definition of Aside

By Katherine Blocksdorf, About.com

Side Saddle

On a side saddle, the rider is side to be riding aside. The right knees sits over the top most pommel of the saddle, and the left foot sits in the stirrup. If there is a leaping horn (this saddle does not), it lays over the left thigh.
