My First Horse-Cricket

My first horse was Cricket, a Morgan grade mare. I was 12 years old and she was 4 years old. When I first got her we could not afford a saddle or bridle so I rode her with binder twine hooked onto the halter and bare back. Cricket would let me stand up on her, we swam in the lake, she never spooked, and she was truly a gem. I had a lot of trauma in my life and Cricket was my soul mate. Cricket also taught my sisters and brother how to ride. She lived to be 28 years old. Every time I mount a horse and go trail riding I think of her.
