 Choosing and Using Equipment

On the underside of an English saddle you'll see the gullet, padding and flaps. Some people might be surprised that there are gaps in the stitching along the areas of padding. These are left intentionally so that the saddle can be re-stuffed easily. Over time the foam or wool stuffing becomes compacted and needs to be replaced or added to. Some older saddles will be quilted or flocked on the underside. On this all purpose saddle, the buckle guards are visible just above the billet straps.
