Purina Recalls Horse Feed
Wednesday May 7, 2008
Purina is recalling several of its feeds manufactured between Nov. 07 and March 08. According to information on the Purina website the products may have been sold in the following states:
So far no problems have been reported and the recall is precautionary. The concern is "aflatoxin contamination above acceptable levels." There is a statement on the Purina Mills website: http://horse.purinamills.com/.
Click on "Eastern U.S. Feed Product Retrieval" to open a pdf. I have contacted Purina to find out what specific products are involved and am still waiting for a response. If you have purchased Purina products from your local dealer, you may check with them for information as well.

WHAT’S THE CHANCE OF THESE PRODUCTS GOING OUT TO OTHER STATES?? I FEED STRATEGY BUT I HAVE PIGS AND CHICKENS THAT I FEED PURINA PRODUCTS TO AND I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL ON LAYENA CHICKEN FOOD (PELLETED)WHICH I DON’T FEED BUT I WOULD LIKE TO STAY ON TOP OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE MANY WHO DEPEND ON IT’S SAFETY AS DO OTHERS!
You’d best check directly with your dealer as they would get first notification if there was a problem. The Purina site has updates on the current problem.
The problem ingredient was caught by Purina Mills infra-red testing system. The product never made it onto dealer shelves. The recall was merely a safeguard.
