Collecting Model Horses

Monday March 31, 2008
My daughter is on the hunt for a new saddle which means we've been visiting a lot of tack shops lately. One display always draws me --the Breyer Horse Collection. I used to have Beryers when I was a kid. My sister and I made little saddles of scrap leather, tissue blankets and cut paper brushes out of catalogues to groom them. They were repainted to represent our own horses of course, although many permanently wore 'leg wraps' of tape to repair broken limbs. How we would have loved the miniature accessories I see on the tack shop racks! Collecting Model Horses is a popular hobby. Lesley Shepherd, About Guide to Miniatures has more information about collecting Breyer Horses. I may go find mine--after reading the link on how to repair all those broken legs.
