Do Your Holiday Traditions Include Horses?

Friday December 21, 2007
When I was little I thought I knew everything about horses. But around Christmas time, when we sang Christmas songs in school I could never figure out what a "one horse soapin' sleigh" was. It wasn't until a few years later that I came to understand that the words to Jingle Bells included a 'one horse open sleigh' (and I didn't know very much at all about horses). I can't say I'm wild about sleighing after a driving accident with a pony a few years ago - that's a whole 'nother blog post. But we do keep the tradition that we must ride on New Year's day. And the horses get special breakfasts on Christmas day. Do you have holiday traditions that include your horses or ponies? Leave your comments below and tell us about them.

We have just started a new tradition this year. My parents are both gone to heaven now so we are just getting together with our five children and five grandchildren on Christmas Eve to open presents and have supper and then we are going for a sleigh ride with our new team of Belgians bought just for the new tradition. We are all very excited about it. We also have a hay wagon to pull if we do not have enough snow. There will be no stopping us now.
