Wildlife Encounters

Thursday November 2, 2006
Rumours are that bears have moved into our area. A few weeks ago I was driving home after sunset and a dark squarish looking animal crossed the road ahead of me. At first I thought it was a large dog. But all of the nieghbourhood dogs have large obvious tails and this animal did not. I don't know if it was a bear or not. But I do know of people who have encountered bears while horseback riding. Horses seem to really dislike bears and pick up bear scent before people do. So just in case I do meet a bear while trail riding I read over U.S. / Canadian Parks Guide Darren Smith's Bear Safety Tips so next spring when they wake up, I'll be prepared.
