Forum Poll: Do You or Would You Vaccinate for Rabies?
Thursday April 17, 2008
I live in an area once dubbed the rabies capital of North America. Yearly vaccinations against rabies are recommended for horses and are law for dogs. There is even a fairly aggressive vaccine drop program for wildlife. (Little packets of yummies and oral vaccine are dropped from planes.) A forum member has created a poll and asks do you vaccinate your horses against rabies? Join the discussion! Forum sign-up only takes a minute and it is free.

I have my horse vaccinated for rabies every year.I’ve never had a problem with the vaccine. i work as a trail guide;generally the barns I work for are in a park setting so I vaccinate for rabies as well as other things.
i vaccinate every year when vet comes and he gives all there shots unless one gets something i give them what ever vet says/ but in arkansas 1 and 3 skunks have rabbies then you i recomand the vaccinate/ if you let them run in a pasture/ but skunks do come to the barns and eat feed/
I vaccinate my cats and dogs for rabies. Why would I not vaccinate my horses? They are just as susceptible and I always say, better safe than sorry.
I always vaccinate for Rabies, here in Texas it is better to be safe than sorry, especailly with the Skunks, Coyotes and Bat populations.
Never had any problems with the vaccine.
I lost 3 horses to rabies when it moved into CT in the early 80’s. I now vacinate all my horses yearly, even though the bill for just the rabies shot comes to almost $1000 because I have so many horses
I lost my best friend and I miss him we used to compete together (I am talking about a horse) and I miss him.
I vaccinate for rabies every other year since my horse has had a reaction in the past, but our horses are out 24/7, subject to any rabid wildlife, so I can’t take the chance. No reaction since 4 years ago.
