Unknowing Heroes
Depending where you are in the world this day may be marked by somber celebrations and memorials to veterans and fallen war heroes. Many lives were sacrificed so that we can enjoy freedom. And many unknowing heroes carried men into battle.
During the First World War millions of horses died. According to the International Museum of the Horse, the United States supplied nearly one million horses to the allied troops. Of these only 200 were returned. Canada and Britain's horse population was severely depleted. Most of the horses that survived the horrific conditions of war alongside their human counterparts were slaughtered when their services were no longer required.

What a shame but these horses died trying to save their country, so really these horses didn’t die their the real heros!
