Caring for Your Horse's Back
Tuesday July 17, 2007
Many people try to solve problems such as, bucking, balkiness, irritability, being too forward moving, being 'cold backed' or stiff gaited by addressing the behavior and not the cause. But often the cause of these problems is a sore back. We often take riding horses so for granted that we forget that it is not natural for them to carry a load on their back. A poorly fitted saddle, poor riding or training, or an imbalanced rider can quickly contribute to back pain for a horse. Knowing this, we need to take care of our horse’s or pony’s back. Becoming a better, more balanced rider is one way to help. Being meticulous about getting a proper fitting saddle is another. And you can do exercises and stretches with your horse.
Care For Horses’ Backs shows you how. Incorporate these exercises into your daily grooming routine to help keep your horse’s back supple and strong and avoid problems before they begin.
