I think it's been winter for about ten years now. Even the horses seem to be getting grumpy. No doubt they are longing for green grass instead of dry hay, no matter how good the hay may be. All the dry fodder can cause problems too, so it is as important in winter to provide water as it is in the warmer months.

Eating snow won't provide enough water for your horse to stay hydrated and natural water sources can become icy or frozen over. A constant supply of clean fresh water for your horse is an essential element in good horse care. Your horse should always have water available in its stable and pasture. Read Water for Your Horse
