On the Second Day of Horses, my true love gave to me...two perfect paddocks. I used to have two imperfect paddocks.

They were very rocky, and one corner was prone to spring flooding. Some people use a paddock near the barn as a 'sacrifice area'. This provides a place to keep horses when you want to keep them off the pastures, like in the spring when hoof marks may dig up the pasture. This type of paddock means you don't expect grass to grow and probably has only the bare minimums available to your horses--hay, water and a run-in shelter.

The paddocks I picture are a little greener, surrounded by beautiful safe fencing and of course, is probably used for riding occasionally or holding a pretty mare and foal, and is definitely visible from a comfortable chair in the house.
