On the Fourth Day of Horses, my true love gave to me...four shining horseshoes. Not all horses need horseshoes. Most don't in fact. Horseshoes have gained a place in folklore as symbols of good luck. It all began when a village blacksmith was visited by the devil.

Because winter is coming on (or has arrived depending on where you are) many people leave their horse's shoes off until spring. Others put snow pads on so the snow and ice doesn't build up under the horse's hoof, which is one problem that shod horses have when the temperatures are below freezing. Others try concoctions of oils to prevent 'snowballs'. Have you tried something that works? Leave your ideas in the comments below. (This pile of shoes contains one that was torn off accidentally and is bent, and two racing plates from an OTTB.)
