I love books, and I love horses. Reading horse books combines the best of both worlds. There are hundreds of free horse books online. Many were written in the horse and buggy days, when the horse was an integral cog of industry, transportation and farming. These books provide an interesting look at horse husbandry, training methods and use. Many of our modern training methods have their roots in the methods used decades or even centuries ago and are captured in the texts written by their authors of long ago.
Not all of these books are instructional though. I love reading memoirs and recently finished 'Among Horses in Russia' by Matthew Horace Hayes. This book chronicles the famous veterinarian's travels through Russia in the mid 1800s as he attempted to pass on his efficient and humane training methods to the Russian cavalry. It is as much a story about people as horses and Hayes strays off into some interesting tangents. You'll find fiction too, with titles by authors like Zane Grey and Anna Sewell.
