Horses That Don't Like to be Groomed

My Clydesdale cross mare used to loved to be groomed. She'd lean into the curry comb as I worked, her eyes half closed and her lips twitching. My Thoroughbred mare however, had quite a different opinion. She was very sensitive and could not tolerate anything but the softest mitts and brushes. She offered to nip if I got too heavy handed with even the body brush. And she cow kicks (kicks up under her belly) if I tried to brush sensitive areas between her legs. It's something we worked on, and she became better than she used to be. But I had learned to respect her sensitivities as she's learned that pinning her ears and snapping her teeth at me are unacceptable. Does your horse bite, nip, cow kick, pin its ears back or flinch away from you while being groomed? Here are some suggestions to make grooming a relaxing time for both of you.
