Memorial to Reader's Horse Rain Dance

Every time I read a memorial that a reader submits, I tear up. I know what it is like to lose a beloved horse. When I lost the Bay Goddess Freya, I asked a friend how long it would take to get over it. She said 'ten years'. Well, it's been over five years, and it doesn't take much for me to start getting teary-eyed all over again. I have a feeling another five years won't make much difference.

I learned a tremendous amount from Freya, even though we never went to a horse show or did much more than stroll down the trail. I wish we had met a long time before we did, so I could have more time with her, and if I could have her back, I would. But things don't work that way and perhaps that is what needed to happen to teach me even more, and lead me to my present horse, Trillium. I'm sure many of you feel the same way about horses that you have loved and lost.

I know you'll want to extend condolences to reader Natalie on the loss of her filly Rain Dance. Having lost her to an epidemic that ran through the stable is especially difficult as most of us would start asking--what could we have done differently and why did this happen? But life just works out that way, and we have to be grateful for what we've been given, no matter how brief. Read Natalie's memorial to Rain Dance, and if you've lost a beloved horse submit your memorial.
