An Introduction to Cross-Country Jumping

If you watch any of the Olympic Equestrian competitions at the Beijing Olympics you'll likely see cross-country jumping.

While the jumps are very large and imposing at higher levels, beginners will start out jumping over small logs and inviting fences.
Cross-country is one phase of Eventing. The other phases are stadium jumping and dressage. You may find a cross-country competition on its own as well. Cross country jumping can be a lot of fun, but it takes a lot of riding skill too. Here's what you can expect for your first cross-country jumping experience.
