Swamp Fever Outbreak in Ireland
Tuesday June 27, 2006
The first recorded outbreak of Equine Infectious Anaemia has been confirmed in Ireland. Also known as Swamp Fever, EIA is transmitted by biting insects. In the Irish horses however, infected serum is suspected. Equine Infectious Anemia can only be detected with a Coggins test and many horse shows and other events require a negative Coggins test to gain entry to the event grounds.
